- How do I check if my phone supports an eSIM?
- The definitive test is whether your phone has an EID number. On iPhone, open Settings → General → About and look for an EID entry. On Android, check Settings → About phone → SIM status or Settings → Network & internet → SIMs. On almost any phone you can also dial *#06# — if an EID is shown alongside the IMEI, the phone supports eSIM. No EID means no eSIM, whatever the model.
- Does my iPhone support a Vietnam eSIM?
- Yes, if it is an iPhone XS, XR or later (that is, 2018 onward) — every model since supports eSIM. Two exceptions matter: iPhones sold on the mainland China market have no eSIM at all regardless of model, and iPhone 14 and later sold in the United States are eSIM-only with no physical SIM tray (which is fine for a travel eSIM). A carrier-locked iPhone may also refuse to add one.

- Over Wi-Fi before you travel: Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service) → Add eSIM → Use QR Code, then scan the code from your email. Label it "Travel", keep your home SIM as your default line for calls and texts, and set the eSIM as your mobile data line. When you land in Vietnam, turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM line.
- How do I set up a Vietnam eSIM on Android?
- Over Wi-Fi before you travel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (or Download a SIM instead), then scan the QR code from your email. Set the eSIM as your data SIM, keep your physical SIM for calls, and enable roaming for the eSIM line once you arrive in Vietnam. Wording varies slightly by manufacturer.
- Will a carrier-locked phone work with a travel eSIM?
- Not always. Even when the hardware supports eSIM, a network-locked phone can refuse to install a third-party eSIM. If your phone is locked to a carrier, ask them to unlock it before you travel, or use an unlocked device.
